On New Year’s Day there will be sailings on the odd hour every two hours from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. There will be extra sailings at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. In the past the heaviest traffic has been the two days before Christmas at the Tsawwassen ter- minal as people come to the Island for Christmas and the two days after Christmas at the Swartz Bay terminal as people return home, a ferry spokesman said. The Mid-Island Express from Tsawwassen to Nanaimo will leave Tsawwassen at 8 a.m., 1 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. daily. The ferry leaves Nanaimo at 5:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. B.C. Ferries notes this route is less heavily used than the -Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay or Horse- shoe Bay-Nanaimo routes, so may be a better alternative for some travelers. A 23-year-old Sidney man was charged Dec. 17 with the Dec. 14-15 break-ins of Sidney Natural Foods and Tanners Hobbies and Crafts, Sidney RCMP said Friday. As a result of evidence gathered at the scene of the crime by Victoria RCMP forensic identifi- cation specialists, police arrested the Sidney man about 10 p.m. Dec. 17 in a local hotel's parking lot, Sidney RCMP Cpl. Jake Bouw- man said. The man, of no fixed address, is expected to appear in provincial court soon. Police do not believe he acted alone and are continuing with their investigation.
