New aldermen take several key portfolios -
as commitiee chairmen named in C. Saanich

@ A Central Saanich alderman,
~ former executive member of the
Association for the Preservation of
Rural Central Saanich and the
Save Saanich Peninsula Commu-
nities coalition, was appointed
planning and zoning committee
chairman by Mayor Ted Jones
earlier this month.

Ald. Clarence Bolt takes over
where former planning chairman
Ald: Arlene Box left off following
the announcements during the
Dec. 3 inaugural meeting.

Incumbent Box becomes chair-
man of the community services
and legislation committee.

Incumbent Ald. Jack Mar now
heads the public works and traffic
safety committee, from the sanita-
tion and water portfolio. -

Mar was also named the munici-
pality’s representative on the
Capital Regional District board
with the mayor taking the appoint-
ment as alternative.

Saanich branch of the Greater
Victoria Boys’ and Girls’ Club is
also part of Tobin’s portfolio. His
alternate is Cameron.

Box now heads the heritage
advisory committee, and is coun-
cil’s liaison representative with the

Peninsula Community Associa-

tion.

Also, she is joined on the joint
civic emergency program commit-
tee by Jones, police Chief Bob
Miles and fire Chief Bruce Elve-
dahl.

Jones, Bolt and Mar are all now
members of the community liaison
committee.

Appointed to the school and
hospital liaison committee were
Mar, Bolt, Valiquette and Cam-
eron.
