SAVE AND SOUND The free Safe and Sound Wildemess Survival program will be offered starting Jan. 7 at St. Elizabeth Parish Hall on Third Street in Sidney. The six-week program meets for an hour every Monday and Wednesday and is open to children aged three to eight years. The program is designed to teach children how to survive if they are lost in the wildemess. Twelve hours of role playing is followed by over- night tp in the weods. The reading will start in the library, 10091 Resthaven Drive, at 7:30 p.m. Bowering is the author of eight collections of poetry, one of fiction plus radio plays for the BBC and CBC. Her first novel, To All Appear- ances a Lady, is an epic centered in the Chinatown of turn-of-the- century Victoria. The book was published by Random House of Canada in the fall of 1989; by Viking in the U.S. in the spring of 1990 and will be published by Hamish Hamilton/ Penguin in the United Kingdom in 1991.
