t ie dl 42ND VY TtheReview Wednesday, December 19, 1990 Man charged with break-in of post office A 20-year-old Brentwood Bay man was arrested by police Dec. 8 for the July 15 break-in and theft of over $10,000 worth of stamps and money from the Brentwood Bay post office. Central Saanich police executed a search warrant on a home in the 7300-block West Saanich Road and found a quantity of stamps that are believed to be stolen. The rear door to the post office was pried open before about $450 cash, $5,500 worth of stamps and #2 loaded postage meter with abont $7,000 worth of stamps was stolen, - July 15, Central Saanich deputy police Chief George Lawson said. A loaded six-shot, .22-calibre handgun was found by police sear- ching the house, Lawson said. A 20-year-old man was arrested, taken into custody, and was later released, police said. Police would not release his name and are continuing to inves- tigate. Thirsty thief A robber took five bottles of liquor from a garage in the 2600- block Ferguson Road in Saani- ~@ chton sometime overnight Dec. 4-5, then visited a neighbor’ S gar- age for 30 bottles of wine two nights later. The homemade wine, inside brown-glass bottles with a home- made label, were taken from a wine tack in an unlocked garage on Ferguson Road overnight Dec. 6-7. In the first theft, two bottles of wine, two bottles of gin and a bottle of liqueur were taken. Central Saanich police ask that person with information call Cri- meStoppers or the police office. Alarm sounds An audible alarm triggered by a motion detector apparently scared away thieves attempting to remove a grow light from a greenhouse in the Island View area of Central Saanich, about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 1, police said. A plastic wall was slashed and a grow light was found partly dis- mantled, police said. Door, window forced open An automotive business located in a garage in the 6800-block Veyaness Road was broken into overnight Nov. 25-26. Filing cabin- @ cis and drawers were opened but nothing appeared to be missing, although about $250 damage was done to a side door, Central Saa- nich police said. During the same time period, the upper section of a front win- dow was pried open and a small amount of cash was stolen from a business in the 6800-block Kir- kpatrick Crescent. About $200 damage resulted to locks and cabinets. As well, overnight Novy. 25-26, the lower section of a window in an automotive shop was pried but not forced open. Entry was not made to the business, located in the 2000-block Keating Crossroad.
