Community Gifts are needed for older children Gifts suitable for older children, those aged! nine to 15, are in short supply at the Sidney Kiwanis- Review Christmas Toy Fund and th¥te’s only two days left for donations to be dropped off. Many of the donations received to date are suitable for young children but there is a shortage of items for older children, Sidney and Peninsula Kiwanis Club presi- dent Ted Parsons said. The fund is continuing to accept donations until Thursday night because gifts and food hampers will be distributed Thursday and Friday. Recently, the toy fund and the Lions-Review Christmas Hamper fund both received a boost with a series of donations to the office at 9627-First Street. First came the students of Sans- bury-McTavish School, who brought in a collection of wrapped gifts purchased with $500 raised by the students. The First Sidney Brownies con- tributed toys and food. Sidney’s B.C. Liquor Store man- ager Bill Pettigrew showed up with a box of stuffed bears, thanks to the generosity of liquor store Under a province-wide liquor store promotion, store customers buy two stuffed bears for $10.60. The customer takes one bear home and the second bear is donated to a local Christmas fund. By Dec. 10 over 70 bears had been donated by purchasing patrons at the local liquor store.
