TeReview Wednesday, December 12,1990 — All Calder representing Sidney on Capital Regional District board Veteran Sidney Ald. John Calder will represent the Town of Sid- nhey’s interests at the board of the Capital Regional District. Mayor Marie Rosko made the appointment at the inaugural meeting of council Dec. 6, among with other appointments. Ald. Don Amos was named Calder’s alter- nate at the CRD. “I’m delighted,” Calder said of the appointment, pointing out his previous experience at the regional district level. He served a term as a director on the largest regional district board in the province, in Peace River-Liard in 1977-78, and has served as an alternate to the board. Mayor Rosko will chair a new committee, Committee C, respon- sible for port development, with Amos and Calder. Rosko is also council’s liaison rep to the Sidney Silver Threads and sits on the Economic Development Commit- tee with Amos and Calder. Repre- sentatives from the Sidney Associ- ation of Merchants and the Saa- nich Peninsula Chamber of Com- merce, with two members of the public, make up the economic development committee. The only other incumbent alder- man on Sidney council, Ald. Bob Jones, is council’s representative on the Peninsula Recreation Com- mission. Jones is also the Peninsu- la Emergency Measures represen- tative and chairman of the Fire Warden’s Committee. In other appointments, Ald. Dave Goulet is the council liaison to the Peninsula Water Commis- sion and the Family Court com- mittee representative, is council’s rep to the Tourist Association of Vancouver Island and sits on the Reay Creek Advisory committee and is one of two reps to the Peninsula Community Associa- tion. Ald. Brenda Harfield is the Town’s director at the Vancouver Island Regional Library board table, is council’s voice to the Memorial Park Society Board, is the museum advisory liaison rep, is a Peninsula Community Associ- ation representative and sits on Committee B and the Fire War- den’s committee. Amos is the chairman of Com- mittee B, responsible for planning and development, is the Advisory Planning Commission liaison and is council’s representative to the Downtown Revitalization Com- mittee. Following the appointments, Rosko said “the issues are many and the issues are complex” and pointed out that the mayor is an ex officio member of each and every committee.
