Kim Horsman. Along with the crew of the RCM Police Vessel Harvison, Horsman is holding a Marine Watch infor- mation evening at the Sidney fire- hall, Monday. Marina and vessel security, crime prevention, the marine watch program and drug awareness are all on the agenda. “Most people don’t know any serial numbers of items stolen, and they don’t even know the model of the item,” Horsman said. “When that happens our chanc- es of success (in recovering stolen property) is really set back. “Thieves not only walk into a marina, they also come in by boat,’ Horsman said. “It’s very difficult to control.” To prevent thefts on an ongoing basis, the police suggest that boat- ers remove valuables from the vessel when it is being stored for the winter. Among the removable items that are often reported stolen are small outboard motors, VHF radios, fishing equipment and liquor. The marine watch program is free of charge and begins at 7:30 p-m. in the Sidney firehall on Third Street. For further informa- tion, call Sidney RCMP at 656- 3931 or the P/V Harvison at 656-5231.
