A public meeting to show possi- ble plans for a Third Building at the Sidney waterfront — to tie in to a proposed hotel development — will be held sometime in the near future, the outgoing Sidney council decided Monday. Council passed a motion approving a request from Sidney Pier Holdings president Jim Bur- ton to organize a public viewing “of the coordinated plans of the two companies which together represent the port development. “We hold a strong view that, from the perspective of planning the individual components, they cannot be taken in isolation and the public should regard the plan accordingly,” Burton said. Council requested Oct. 22 that Sidney Pier give a revised substan- tial completion date for the Port development. Ald. Ben Ethier initially dismis- sed Sidney Pier’s reply. “They didn’t give us a date and they. won't give us a date,” Ethier said. But Ald. Stan Bamford support- ed Sidney Pier’s request to set up a public viewing meeting of models. “7 think it’s a commendable idea and I can’t see anyone objecting to more information. “TJ suggest we (ask) them to prepare the model and the date of completion will depend on the Continued on Page A2 Police peeren for SUBD Be in armed robbery A 29-year-old Victoria man driving a Blue Bird taxi was robbed at knifepomt on Cultra Avenue in Saanichton about 5:30 a.m. Nov. 17, Central Saanich police said. The driver was not injured but a small amount of money was taken, deputy police Chief George Law- son said. The cab driver picked up a native Indian man described as having black shoulder-length hair, about five-foot-eight, wearing a black leather jacket and blue jeans, in the area of Mt. Newton Cross- road and the Pat Bay Highway, Lawson said. COMPOSITE DRAWING of a man suspected of robbing a taxi ariver in Central Saanich was circulated to all Greater Victoria taxi Companies. After travelling to the west end of Cultra Avenue, the suspect pulled a knife and demanded money from the driver. Two patrol cars from Central Saanich and two RCMP patrol cars with a tracking dog scoured the area of Wallace Drive near Cultra shortly after the incident, without ~ SUCCESS. A composite drawing of the suspect has been circulated to all taxi companies in the Greater Victoria area, Lawson said. Peninsula escapes wiih very minimal flood damage The three Peninsula municipal- ities escaped much of the devasta- tion caused by last Friday’s torren- tial rains, which flooded homes and forced evacuations in other Greater Victoria municipalities. Total damage in the three municipalities was estimated at $200,000 by Provincial Emergency Program Victoria zone manager Neil Coward. “There wasn’t all that much damage,’ he said. Damage throughout the zone was estimated at $6 million.
