Continued from Page A6 issue a demand letter and another four months or more to threaten legal action. That’s certainly not good enough when you're a single mother trying to raise a family with no support from your spouse for eight to 12 months.” In a Review article on Aug. 2, 1989, Central Saanich Mayor Ron Cullis, said he hoped to see a proposal for an expanded commit- tee sometime in 1990, but not necessarily a committee which monitors family court proceedings. Well, as 1990 is drawing to a close, nothing has been reported as to even a proposal. In closing, I urge everyone to get out and vote on election day and to the struggling victims of the Fam- ily Court system — remember who discriminated against you and your children — I know I certainly will! Rozalynde McKibbin Sidney Siandards needed for sludge removal Editor: In your report on a discussion of sludge treatment at North Saanich Council, I am appalled at the misinformation that was reported in reference to an upcoming meet- ing with the Ministry of Environ- ment (North Saanich standing alone on sludge treatment, The Review, Nov: 7). My comments at the Regional Board did not include “whether sludge needs to be removed.” What I did refer to was the need for the Ministry of the Environ- ment to identify standards for sludge and its disposal. Until we have those standards it is difficult to determine which of the many treatment options would best do the job. The so-called “first step’ of dewatering is dependent on the ultimate method of treatment, since different treat- ment processes require different levels of dewatering. There are also incredible differ- ences in price between the various methods, which is why I requested a full public process, so taxpayers fully understand the financial implications of the decision. Let’s not hop on the bandwagon until we know the direction it’s heading. My frustration with the Ministry of Environment’s lack of standards is not peculiar to this area. It is echoed by other communities throughout the province. Mayor Norma Sealey Sidney Hockey players support Games Editor: We, the members of the Van- couver Island Ladies’ Field Hoc- key Association, unanimously passed a resolution at our Septem- ber 22, 1990 general meeting in support of the entire concept of the Commonwealth Games. We believe that these Games will create great enthusiasm for, and participation in, sport and recreation on the Island, and in particular Greater Victoria. We believe, too, that Greater Victoria will also be the benefici- ary of enhanced facilities as lega- cies of these games. We fully Support Victoria’s decision to host these games. Carolyn Prellwitz Secretary, VILFHA Residents want a firm commitment Editor: Lloyd Harrop says (Harrop seeks mayor’s chair, The Review, Oct. 31) that the proposed golf course on Wain Road will be a conten- tious issue for council. We know that. What we don’t know is where he and the new candidates stand on the issue. Three incumbents, Maurice Chazottes, Dee Bailin and Don Caverley have already voted against such a golf course. Two incumbents, Brian Dunic and Art McKinnon voted for the golf course. Where do the rest stand? We don’t want any hiding behind vague terms like “preserving BRANDS OF 14 ROUND. *On location financing * Christmas layaways F SAWYER SEWING CENTRES E 840 Fort St., Victoria SINGLE VISION 1 PAIR 69> IS @ (Same person, Same prescription) Prices include frame lens and case.
