Courts/ News A 24-year-old Sidney man was sentenced to 30 days in jail after pleading guilty Oct. 25 in Sidney provincial court to charges of ssault, threatening and breach of an undertaking. McKimm suggested his client had an anxious temper. He sentenced Desjardins to 30 days in jail on the assault charge, 30 days concurrent on the threat- ening charge and 14 days concur- rent on the breach of undertaking. He also placed Desjardins on "six months” probation follow com- pletion of the jail sentence and suggested the man get counselling to learn to control his temper and get counselling on alcohol abuse. Feds help fund AIDS prevention The federal government will contribute $500,000 to a provin- cial AIDS prevention pilot project, Perrin Beatty, federal minister of health and welfare, said last week. The $1.24 million program, developed mainly for intravenous drug users, will include referrals to addiction treatment programs or other relevant health and social service programs. Education on the risks involved in intravenous drug use, as well as the proper use of condoms to stop the spread of HIV infection and AIDS is also part of the program.
