Their time spent in the
firehall provides them with a
break from dealing with
abusive teenagers and Friday-
night drunks. Firehall time is
occupied with fire training as
well as catching up on paper-
work.

Each Sunday morning the
constables assigned to the
firehall are joined by on-shift
police for a weekly training
session. On Oct. 21, the topic
is ventilating buildings to
reduce the risk to firefighters
and property. Within 10
minutes of leaving the
firehall, the constables are
standing on the roof of the
Viewfield Road warehouse,
putting into practice the tech-
niques they have watched on
video.
