Highway liaison
members named

Three Central Saanich residents
were appointed to the Pat Bay
Highway upgrade liaison commit-
tee, Oct. 15.

Central Saanich council passed
a resolution which made David
Michell, Susan Smith and Earle
Tabor committee members.

The three area property owners
will help provide the provincial
Ministry of Highways with input
from the neighborhood on the
upgrading of the highway in Cen-
tral Saanich, including the Island
View interchange.

Other committee members are
made up of municipal staff, coun-
cil members, a school board trus-
tee, a Saanich Peninsula Chamber
of Commerce member and a mem-

ber of the Central Saanich Busi-

ness Association.

24 cups quinces, 7 cups apples, .

6 cups onions, 4 cups raisins, 4
cups Demerara sugar, 7 cups cider
vinegar, 2 tablespoons fresh ginger
root, thinly sliced, 2 dried cayenne
peppers, 1 jalapena pepper, 1/4
cup lemon juice. Spices needed
are (1 tablespoon each) cinnamon,
cloves, allspice and curry.

Method:

Peel and core quinces and
apples. Chop reasonably small,
along with onions. Put vinegar in
large pot with all ingredients
except the sugar, and bring to a
boil. Simmer gently for two hours,
longer if too watery.

Now add the sugar and continue
to cook for another half-hour Stir
often so it won’t stick and bum.
Pour into jars, and wax the top.
This chutney will keep well for
years. :

SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK is performed by
students at Mt. Newton Midale School
Thursday at lunch time to the delight of
a packed gymnasium. This particular
group was concentrating on the Ccom-
plicated lyrics of Led Zeppelin s Stairway
to Heaven. Alfhough the song was Cut
short, the group did get a big round of
applause for the effort.
