This goal gave Vic High a 1-0 win over Parkland in the teams’ final league game of the Members & Guests Playing its best game of the season, the Parkland Panthers senior boys’ soccer team suffered a cruel 1-0 loss to Vic High, ursday. - In an exciting end-to-end game, the Panthers played skillfully on defence and, for once, showed plenty of attacking flair, too. First-half action saw the teams deadlocked with both sides play- ing exciting, fluid soccer that kept i goalkeepers busy making acro- batic saves. The Parkland Panthers senior boys’ volleyball team continued its | winning ways last week with three more victories. _ The Panthers dumped Oak Bay Secondary by 15-4 and 15-6 Wed- nesday. And in action two days earlier they beat Vic High by 15-11 and 15-5 and then ripped St. Andrews (High by 15-9 and 15-11 at Park- land Secondary. Coach Lorne Chan said the Panthers are going from strength to bexength with each game. A superbly taken volley fired off a pinpoint cross left Parkland’s keeper diving in vain as Vic High took the lead. The Panthers fought back with plenty of spirit and forced Vic High’s keeper to make a couple of spectacular saves. Parkland’s assistant coach Phil Ohl said he was impressed with performance, knowing they were heading for a comfortable victory, he said. “They were a little lethargic. They really need to be challenged all the time,” he said. The match’s one standout was Tim Archbold, who provided some excellent spiking and block- ing. In a confident and relaxed man- ner, the Panthers also “handily” defeated their opponents Oct. 15, he said. Chan said he played two line- ups to offer some valuable experi- ence to some of the team’s reserve players. “I want to make sure everyone on the squad can contribute when it comes to the playoffs,” he said. Offensively they provided a lot of shooting opportunities but weren’t able to get the ball in the net,”’ he said. In earlier action, the Panthers were blanked 3-0 by Glenlyon- Norfolk, Oct. 15. With the season now over, the Panthers record stands at no wins, no ties and eight losses. Three wins for volleyball squad and made the home team sweat a little while earning its wins. With the team back to full Strength, Chan is looking forward to the playoffs, which will be held at Parkland Secondary next Mon- day and Wednesday. The top six teams in the final league standings will compete in a round-robin tournament, which will run from about 4 p.m. to about 9 p.m. each day. The Panthers play their last two league matches tonight at Pacific Christian School in matches against the home team and Stelly’s. As of Thursday, the Panthers league record stood at 15 wins and one loss.
