Competing in the world Iron- man triathlon championship in Kona, Hawaii, the pair said they found the course grueling, Oct. 6. About 1,389 participants started the race, which consisted of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run. The top finisher among the three, Jim Winter, 26, said he had earlier hoped to finish in the top ten in his age group. But battling severe dehydration to finish the course became his only goal after the roasting heat sapped most of the strength out of him, he said.
