And we’ve got some strong forwards who are good in aruck.”’ A Stelly’s Junior B team will ' also be formed to play exhibition games and to possibly compete among the Junior teams in the Western Division, Wyatt said. The game against Esquimalt showcased the flair and individual skills of some of Stelly’s veteran players. Among the game’s highlights was a try from a solo effort by Stinger Matt Gemmel. He broke down the right wing and performed some fancy foot- work to side-step a couple of tackles before scoring. John Gault supplied Stelly’s other try late in the game after peeling off from a ruck five yards away from Esquimalt’s end-zone. Head coach Rob Montgomery said Rob Olson signed to play for the Eagles in a surprise move, Sunday. Having failed last week to qual- ify for the Canadian Tour and become the youngest Canadian professional golfer on the Tour, Olson said he has decided to spearhead the Eagles offence again. . With 50 goals and 65 assists for the Eagles, Olson, 19, topped the league in scoring last season — becoming the first player to score over 50 goals in the league in over fen years. Montgomery said Olson’s sur- prise decision to play hockey again now gives the Eagles the attacking power it’s been lacking recently. It’s because of my love of hockey and (Eagles assistant coach) Jim Townley helped talk me into it,” Olson said. Montgomery said the Eagles lost to the Kerry Park Islanders from Mill Bay Saturday, 5-2, because players were unable to convert scoring opportunities. “We outshot them 52-40. We were all over them but we just couldn’t put the puck in the back of the net,” he said. “We were missing someone ~ who could put the puck in the back of the net.” In earlier action, the Eagles team was edged 7-5 by Parksville on Sept. 25 in an evenly-matched game, he said. “It was a scrambly game and could have gone either way,” he said. As well as signing Olson, Mont- gomery said he and Townley have recently boosted the team’s ranks with two more very talented play- ers. Beefing up the defence will be “allstar defenceman” Eric Ojala, who was one of the Eagles’ top players last season, he said. And “the toughest guy in the league,”’ Rod Nunn, will add some muscle to the defensive line too, he said.
