Hunter to waich environmeni Saanich-Gulf Islands MP Lynn Hunter was appointed associate environment critic Sept. 18 fol- lowing a New Democratic caucus retreat in Ottawa. The appointment was part of a caucus reorganization by new party leader Audrey McLaughlin, which establishes major commit- tees on the environment, on finance, on social policy and on external affairs. Hunter has served as the critic for international development and says the new responsibility recog- nizes the link between interna- tional development and environ- mental protection. STUDENTS DESK ADJUST A DESK > “The creation of an associate environment critic responsible for international issues and the global environment confirms my belief that the questions of development, sustainability and the environment are interrelated. “To be asked by Audrey to ensure that the Conservative gov- ermment understands that funda- mental relationship is a great chal- lenge,” Hunter added. To avert a global environmental crisis, environmentally sound and sustainable development must occur worldwide, Hunter said.
