It has been said that Lottie befriended the majority of people she met.” said nephew Dave Driver of Sidney. Bom Lottie Braithwaite Dec. 9, 1900 near Blackpool, England, Few sailed to Canada with her family on the Cunard line’s Vir- ginian from Liverpool in the spring of 1906. Driver recalls his aunt’s: stories of the family’s first years in Alberta. They travelled by train to Strath- cona, near Edmonton, and then by horseback and on foot to a home- stead property 60 miles west of Edmonton. Their belongings arrived later by Ox-Cart. MacDonald’s wife, a half-breed Indian, had 13 children. ‘Lottie will be remembered for a wondentul zest for life. She could pilot a logging truck over mountain roads’ “Lottie used to tell of visiting the warm bedroom of the house where several papooses hung from the ceiling,” Driver said. In 1977, when Few returned to the area for a school reunion, she met Adam MacDonald in a nurs- ing home. He was 105 years old. Few moved with her parents to North Saanich in 1923. She worked in a store for some time and in 1928 married Gerald Few.
