A False alarms The emergency 9-1-1 switch- board at the Central Saanich dis- patch centre “just lit right up” about 6:10 p.m. Sunday with reports of a person falling to the ground. Callers said that a parachutist cut away from the main chute and plummeted to the ground near the area of Keating Crossroad and West Saanich Road. But police found a 21-year-old Victoria woman in good condition She had run into trouble with her main chute and cut it away before opening the reserve chute, police said. Apparently she was quite close to the ground when the reserve chute finally opened, prompting the calls. Boats discovered with motors gone In the second such incident on the Peninsula in recent weeks, a stolen motorboat was found with its outboard motor missing. Overnight Saturday-Sunday, a boat with a navy blue Evinrude motor was stolen from where it was moored on Beach Road in Saanichton. A short time after it was reported stolen, the boat was found with the 20-horsepower motor removed. In the earlier incident, a green and white Glasscraft 14-and-a-half foot boat on a grey Highliner trailer was stolen from a home in the 8000-block Bourne Terrace, sometime before 9 a.m. Aug. 17. The boat was equipped with a Johnson 35-horsepower motor, Sidney RCMP said. The boat and trailer were locat- ed at Island View Beach in Central Saanich in the evening, Aug. 17, but the motor was missing.
