News ™Review Wednesday, August 8, 1990 — Aw New ferries planned | Another ferry and an enlarged ferry will be added to B.C. Ferries’ fleet by the summer of 1991. A 12-year-old Norwegian ferry, purchased for $10.85 million, will require $3 million worth of upgrading before being added to the ferry service next summer, a B.C Fermies spokesman said. The ferry is 100 metres long, 18 metres wide and can carry 115 cars and up to 700 passengers. Upgrading the ship will provide 200 man-months of employment at a B.C. shipyard. Minister responsible for B.C. Fermies Rita Johnston said the ferry can be used on the Sunshine Coast Toutes to carry commercial or recreational vehicles when its plat- form decks are retracted. With the platform decks in use, it could carry traffic to the south- em Gulf Islands. The enclosed car deck allows the ferry to be used on the Tsawwassen-Gulf Islands or Comox-Powell River crossings. The Queen of New Westminster will have an upper car deck added Thief found sound asleep in youth club A youth who broke into the Central Saanich Boys and Girls Club was found asleep in the club April 16, Judge Stephen Denroche heard in Sidney provincial court Thursday.
