TheReview Wednesday, August 8,1990 — All Tourism declines as gasoline prices rise At the onset of the peak travel season, Canadian gasoline prices continue to rise, harming the tour- ism industry, according to the Canadian Automobile Associa- tion, which recently released the results of its second-quarter survey of gas prices. The 3.3-million member, not- * for-profit CAA monitors gasoline prices throughout Canada on a monthly basis and releases a quar- terly report with figures provided by Runzheimer Canada Inc., of Toronto, an international manage- ment consultant firm specializing in transportation, travel and living costs. The CAA survey reveals the Canadian average price for both regular and premium unleaded gasoline increased during the second quarter. The national average for a litre Je i) oS of regular unleaded at self-serve rose to 55.8 cents. Newfoundland and Quebec had the highest prices at 60.0 cents and 59.5 cents per litre. The Canadian average price for a litre of premium unleaded gasol- ine at self-serve increased to 59.8 cents per litre. “Excessive taxes inflate Can- ada’s gas prices,” said CAA chair- man Denis Morand. “This harms our country’s tour- ism industry — both coming and going. Fewer Americans are visit- ing Canada and Canadians are travelling in record numbers in the US.” Door & Window Specialists OFFICE: 9771-4th St. 655-4648 Bus. 361-6301 Mobile.
