Summer dance school

A school for summer jazz and
tap dance students will open
August 13 for two-week classes
taught by veteran dance instructors
Patti Tidquist and Heidi Vanden
Bulck.

To be held in the Brentwood
Community Hall, the Dance Con-
nection will give beginning stu-
dents of ages 10-13 the opportuni-
ty to become familiar with dance,
while advanced students aged 14-
17 can hone their skills in prepara-
tion for the winter season.

Maximum class size is 20 stu-
dents each and five classes in total
are being offered — three levels of
jazz and two levels of tap.

If enough interest is shown, a
‘class for adult dancers could be
added.

“T would set up an adult class
for jazz or tap if a minimum of 10
adults are interested,” Tidquist
said. The top level jazz class, for
ages 14-17, is designed for stu-
dents with a minimum of two
years jazz dance training.

Learning to dance does more for
a person than assist their physical
condition, she said.

HOLDING A POSE during jazz

enthusiasts.

“Tt helps young people feel
good about themselves and allows
them to express themselves in

another way,” Tidquist said.

“For many students, it gives
them confidence because it’s
something they can do and look
good doing.”

Shop in Brentwood, the Coloring
Crew in Saanichton and Crazy
Mikes and the Brat Pack in Sidney,
