The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus will return to the earth physically, in bodily form, to give life to the faithful, to judge the nations, and to establish his Fathers everlasting kingdom. When Christ ascended to heav- en after his resurrection, the angels comforted his disciples with the assurance, found in Acts Ch. 1, v. 11, that.“This Je- sus who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” The physical re- turn of Christ to the earth was also clearly taught by the apos-; tles in many places, such as Hebrews Ch. 9) v. 28; 1 Corinthi- ans Ch. 1, v. 7, | John Ch. 8, v: 2 and James Ch. 5, v. 7-8. The Bible also gives us many indications, especially those concerning the return of the Jews to the land of Israel in fulfillment of the prophecy in Ezekiel Ch. 36, that the tir of that return is soon. Neverthe- less, the exact time of Christ’s return is not revealed in the Bible. Jesus says, explicitly, in Matthew Ch. 24, v. 36, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” Knowledge of this fact should affect the believer's life. In Mat- thew Ch. 24, v. 44, Jesus says, “Therefore you must also be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” To be ready for something that could happen at any time in- volves more than just a state of occasional peparedness; to be ready on one day, and unpre- pared on another is not suffi- cient. Instead, being ready in- volves a way of life and a state of mind. Paul says in Romans Ch. 8, v. 6, “To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the spirit is life and peace.” By pursuing Godly val- ues, the believer will be ready, for his mind will already be set on life and peace. These Godly values are listed in Galatians Ch. 5, v. 22: “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, patience, kind- ness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law.” If those who have been baptised into Christ truly live a new life in Christ, according to these val- ues, they will always be ready, — ready to hear the wonderful words of Jesus: “Well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a little, | will set you over much; enter into the joy of your Lord.” For Bible reading classes, call 655-1061.
