woods and combing the beaches is
a high quality activity,’ Scott
explained. :

He hopes the children partici-
pating will discover new alterna-
tives for their leisure time.

He is seeking adult volunteers
with leisure time to offer special
interest workshops, perhaps in
crafts, story telling, games or
songs, on Mondays and Wednes-
days.

“7 think this program is a very
preventative, pro-active way of
involving oneself with children,”
he said.

Children can register for one
week or all mine weeks. Enroll-
ment is limited to 13 children per
week. ;

Each week from Panorama Lei-
sure Centre, children 6 to eleven
can take off in the Golden Eagles
Day Camp.

Sports, games, crafts, swimming
and outdoor exploration are
included, with a field trip every
Wednesday and a visit to Cole Bay
Park beach every Friday.

For the $58 weekly registration,
youngsters get a T-shirt and -activi-
ties from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Camp sessions start July 3 and
continue until Aug. 24. i

Already scheduled are visits to
Fort Rod Hill and the Juan de Fuca
playground, Mt. Douglas Park,
Beaver Lake, Beacon Hill Park
and petting farm, Island View
Beach, Mattick’s Farm, Bazan Bay
park and Witty’s Lagoon.

New at Panorama this year is a
Just Sports Camp for young people
11 to 16. Each week a different
sport will be featured during the
five day, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Sessions.

The first week will feature bas-
ketball, followed by baseball, soc-
cer, water sports/kayaking, ball
hockey, tennis, basketball and
baseball on following weeks.

In addition to the featured sport,
participants will play soccer, golf,
tennis, volleyball and go swim-
ming.

Enrollment is limited to 12 each
week. David and Greg Lewis are
the leaders.

“We felt we needed a program
for older children,” community
recreation coordinator Steve Grant
said.

Just Sports Camp will be offered
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to
Friday, starting July 3 and continu-
ing until Aug. 24. The $65 per
week fee includes a T-shirt.

Panorama Leisure Centre has
offered a summer day camp pro-
gram since 1983.
