After participating in a provin- cial government-sponsored trade ~ delegation to Hong Kong in May, Rick Roberts said two large firms will consider the Peninsula as a possible location for business ven- % tures. He said one Hong Kong com- pany is interested in building a recycling plant on Vancouver Island. Another firm was looking into building a hotel complex, as well as becoming involved in aqua- culture farming on the Island, he said. Roberts was a member of a 14-man party which attended the Hong Kong Trade and Investment *90 Exposition to promote British @ Columbia. The provincial Ministry of Regional and Economic Develop- ment and the B.C. International 4# Business and Immigration minis- try sponsored the delegation’s trip, Roberts said. “I was there specifically to pro- mote Vancouver Island as a loca- tion for investment opportunities.” Killing planned The killing of 66-year-old Sid- ney taxi driver Kenneth Scott Oct. 12, 1988, was planned by three of youths and an adult as they sat drinking in a school yard, one of the youths told police the moming after the killing, Victoria youth court was told Monday. s According to published reports, the statement was heard in Victoria youth court Monday as part of a voir dire during the trial of three 17-year-old youths charged in Scott’s death. At the end of the voir dire, Judge Robert Metzger will rule on @. whether the voir dire evidence will be admitted as part of the tal. In his statement to police, one youth said the other accused and 24-year-old Michael Allen came drinking at about 3:30 a.m. Oct. _ 12, 1988. The three called a cab, bought beer in Brentwood and sat in the Brentwood Elementary school yard, drinking and planning the killing, the youth told police. The group then called a cab and directed the driver to take them to Jimmy Road and stop, the youth @ Said. One of the other youths | demanded Scott's money and | began stabbing the taxi driver. | Scott’s body was found in his _cab on Jimmy Road in Central Saanich shortly after 5 am. Oct. 12. Earlier in the trial a pathologist testified Scott had been stabbed 17 times. The youth told police the group found $29 in Scott’s wallet.
