Novice for beginners — Jock for more experienced, skilled recreational players — Pro which is the highest level for top clubs and universities. The teams will be mixed with six toa side. There will be teams from Sidney, Victoria, Saltspring, Vancouver, Nanaimo and Washington. Many Parkland Secondary School players will be participating. Chan expects 30 teams to take part in the tourney. ~The key emphasis is to have fun and get lots of participation and play,” said Chan. Ocean Pacific and HTO have contributed clothing and other ptizes. Labatt’s and Hotel Sidney have put up over $300 in prizes and cash. Fogg & Suds are hosting the social event following the tourney. The Review, CKDA and the Peninsula Celebrations Society are all supporting the event through promotion and publicity. Prizes and awards will be presented for first, second and third place finishes in each of the categories. So come on out to Tulista and watch the fast action and cheer on your favorite team. ULE V2 Bicycle 2 races ¢ Another new feature in the form of nationally sanctioned bicycle Taces will be a part of this year’s Sidney Days activities. If you like speed, excitement, intense competition, colorful out- fits and thrills then these bike Taces are for you. There will be two events. The Individual Time Trials on Saturday June 30 starting at 9 a.m. and finishing at 12 noon. The start is at Tulista Park — five kilometres south on Lochside, turning at Newman Road and five kilometres north on Lochside fin- ishing at Tulista Park. At this stage, registrations show 100 men and 50 women participat- ing. Starts will be at one minute intervals and the contestants will be competing against the clock. The second event is the Review/Sidney Days Criterium. This is a bike race around a closed circuit encompassing four city blocks and has bikers reaching speeds of about 40 kph on the ~ Straights. The start and finish is at Fourth Street, middle of the block between Beacon and Bevan Ave- hues. The circuit goes along Sid- ney, Second Street, Bevan Avenue and Fourth Street. There will be a mass start with 100 men and 50 women compet- ing for awards and prizes. This race takes place on Saturday, June 30. The women’s race starts at 6:30 p.m. finishing at 7:45 p.m. The men’s race starts at 8 p.m. finishing at 9:30 p.m. Line the route and watch these top flight bicyclists compete.
