~— Due to a number of reasons the Peninsula Celebrations Society was unable to sponsor the Miss Sidney Beauty Pageant this year. There was still the need however to have a presence on our newly designed float and for someone to officiate at certain events to repre- sent the town. What to do? The society contacted four for- mer Miss Sidney winners, all of whom have agreed to represent the community over the coming year: The young ladies are Miss Sid- ney 1989 Leigh Ann Hughes, Miss Sidney 1988 Shannon Pearson, Miss Sidney 1987 Laura Burrows and Miss Sidney 1986 Anita Fre- driksen. The society and the town really appreciate these ladies for volun- teering their time and talents and representing the community so well. All Miss Sidneys are very busy with their careers and social lives and this added responsibility will be a bit of a strain. However they are enthusiastic and ready to @ 20: You will see them on the newly designed float and at various func- tions during the Sidney Days weekend. All four rode our float in the Victoria Day parade and also took part in the Esquimalt and Oak Bay parades. Other parades are coming up and the Town of Sidney will be front and centre with our float group and these young ladies strut- ting their stuff for us. TheReview A bevy of beauties Leigh-Anne Hughes As the 1989 Miss Sidney I had the opportunity to meet wonderful and exciting people from all walks of life and age groups and to make Many new friends. The fact that there would not be a Miss Sidney Pageant this year was greeted with mixed emotions. Unfortunate as it is that we didn’t have a 1990 Miss Sidney Pageant, I think it’s great that Anita, Laura, Shannon and I are getting the chance to know each other and become friends and to have the chance to represent beau- tiful Sidney-by-the-Sea.
