Babe Ruth Baseball championships from July 23- 27. The Peninsula Babe Ruth Baseball Association will hold a meeting tonight at the Central Saanich Lions Hall starting at 9 p.m. to discuss preparations for the tournament, association spokesman Laurie Larose said. People interested in becom- ing host families for some of about 120 baseball players are invited to attend the meeting, Larose said: Organizers expect ten district champion teams to arrive from all corners of the province. Among the teams competing, Peninsula Babe Ruth host team will be vying for a berth in the Northwest regional champion- ships in Pendleton, Oregon in August. Burgess will share the responsi- bility of instructing some of Can- ada’s best rugby players with long- time coaching partner Paul Horne of White Rock. Both men have worked together for the past five years to steer the B.C. Junior (under-19) rugby squad to five consecutive Cana- dian Junior provincial title. “I’m very pleased with this appointment and the fact that I’m working again with Paul Horne will make for a good coaching team,” Burgess said. “Since we haven’t lost a game in five years, we’re hoping to keep that Tecord intact.” Ranked as one of Canada’s seven most highly qualified rugby coaches, Burgess has also shared his great depth of experience and savvy with Victoria’s junior Crim- son Tide club side. Under his tutelage, the team became a tour de force in rugby — winning the B.C. junior title half a dozen times in the past eight years. Rugby runs in Burgess” blood.
