Woman severely injured in Pat Bay Highway accident A 35-year-old Saanichton wom- an is recovering in hospital with severe injuries after a two-vehicle accident on the Pat Bay Highway at Amity Drive Thursday morning. The latest accident has local police disgusted that provincial politicians haven’t taken steps to make uncontrolled intersections safer. Susan Campbell was the driver of a car that was eastbound across the highway about 8:30 a.m. when it was struck by a vehicle driven by a 54-year-old Sidney man, Sidney RCMP said. Bylaw bans conibear fraps The use of killing traps and killing snares will no longer be allowed on any land in Central Saanich following the adoption of an animal control bylaw amend- ment Monday at Central Saanich council. The amendment was introduced following complaints from area residents that traps had been set in an area that posed a risk to chil- dren and had killed domestic pets. Complaints to council were made in early March after ille- gally-set conibear traps (killing traps) were found on private prop- erty used by a pre-school in the Haldon Road area of Central Saa- nich. The traps were apparently set by hobby farmers who were con- cerned that raccoons would endan- ger their pen-raised pheasants. A killing snare is defined as a device that is meant to capture small animals by the neck, often killing them, whereas a killing trap is designed to kill the animal outright. Zantvoort’s passenger, Mike Stone, 48, was uninjured. Sidney RCMP Sst. Andy Rose- quist called on provincial politi- cians to stop the talking about the highway and close. off uncontrol- led intersections like the one at Amity Drive and another at McDonald Park Road. “This problem has been existing for years and until something is done about it, itll continue,” Rosequist said. “We're hoping the appropriate people will take the necessary action to get this intersection made safer.” Rent-A-Wife Specializing in helping busy people organize their lives. 656-7744 “We keep the homefires burning.” : = < 3 SIDNEY MEN’S WEAR Invites you to come in and meet ROB McNEE — the newest member of our | Sales Staff Now Open Fri.
