Times have changed. Kids are more likely to end the day with a rousing game of Nintendo than to end it with the sweet tones of a lullaby. They're more likely to tune in to a Satur- day morning of Care Bears and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles than to pretend that they're great magi- cians or to mount a back- yard circus, complete with elephants and clowns. But many entertainers are fighting against high tech childhood. Unlike the parents and grandparents of yester-year, however, these people make their living from their contribu- tions to innocent and mag- ical childhood. Child enter- tainment is an increasing- ly lucrative business and a bevy of local performers are (to a lesser or greater degree) cashing in. LULLABIES & LAUGHTER are special to Pat Carfra — the album went gold — and come naturally when she’s with Children.
