The Environment Youth Corps works on community projects throughout the province and was involved in over 200 of these projects last year. In 1989, the organization worked for the North Saanich Memorial Parks Society, helping to develop Blue Heron Park. The youth crews also helped the District of North Saanich in the construction of trails in wooded areas in the municipality, such as Dean Park. Michael Garthwaite TkeReview Wednesday, June 13,1990 — B2 @& hold meetings out of school gym After years of planning, the ~ Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian Church will finally begin meeting in its own building this winter. Construction will begin on the 7,200 square foot church building after a sod tuming service at the site, starting at 2:30 p.m. June 17, Rev. Peter Coutts said. The church, which will be located at the comer of East Saa- nich Road and Willingdon Road, will be built at a cost of $490,000 and will be able to seat a congre- gation of 230 people, Coutts said. It will also house a lounge, two offices, a kitchen, a nursery and classroom space, as well as wash- rooms. In addition, there will be a hall for classes, dinners and other activities, Coutts added. “This has been the congrega- tion’s dream for some time and everyone is happy to see it is now becoming a reality,’ Coutts said. Currently the 110-strong con- gregation is meeting for worship every Sunday at Sidney Elemen- tary School, he said. However, the new church should be ready for Sunday services by Christmas, Coutts said. Church Services “Anyone who would like to celebrate with us at our sod tum- ing Service is more than welcome to come,” he added. Persons wishing information about the church or church ser- vices are invited to call Coutts at 655-3548. GRACE COMMUNITY CHURCH 3 @ FRIEN DSHIP BAPTIST (Reformed Church in Canada) ST.
