Parked car yielded paris An attempt to steal and sell stolen car parts prought a 17-yeat- old Sidney youth to provincial court Thursday. He pleaded guilty and was placed on 18 months probation. Crown counsel Edward Orm- heim said the youth took mag wheels and tires from a Volkswa- & gen Beetle parked in a compound near Parkland Secondary school. The youth sold the car parts for $200: When the buyer later learned the parts were stolen and returned them to the car ownel, the youth refunded the $200. The youth also admitted the offence to police. Defence lawyer Mayland McKimm said the youth works part-time, attends school full time and hopes to attend law school. The youth sold the parts hoping to raise enough money to travel to the interior of B.C. to recover his car from his father, McKimm said. Previous theft, mischief and preak-and-enter offences commit- ted by the youth occurred in the summer of 1988, McKimm said. The youth’s mother wants him to get counselling, McKimm added. In placing the youth on proba- tion, Judge Stephen Denroche directed him to accept counselling or attend any program ordered by the youth worker. THE BIBLE THE BOOK FOR TODAY Really, there is nothing wrong with the world. The people who inhabit it are where the prob- lems come from. The Meech Lake accord has had world wide attention for weeks. The dollar is affected — up one day, down the next. What we are witness- ing is the futility of human poli- tics. Pride, stubborness, greed, ego have a way of destroying progress. It doesn’t change much. The oldest records we have in human behaviour pat- terns are recorded in the Bible. Right at the beginning Adam elected to ignore the divine law, and ignored the warning of the Creator. So doing it his own way gin entered the world — and death. The pleading and preaching of Noah had no affect onthe people of his time. So the flood was the result — only Noah’s family survived. The preaching of Moses was ig- nored by Israel, and they went their own way. When we come down to the days of Jesus, it was the same. He went through- out the whole land preaching the kingdom of God. He per- formed many miracles that de- monstrated his love to them, by healing their sick, and feeding the hungry. The tragedy of his death on the cross opened the way to salvation for those who would accept it. So we see really it is our indifference to reality. that is creating the ten- sions in our society. God's world is not affected — only our hu- man political order is in chaos. The solution to the problem is basicly found in Paul’s letter to the Romans 1-16. “The Gospel is the power of Ged unto salva- | tion.” The question is, are we prepared to consult it? Really we should. The “gospel” is the “good news” of the kingdom of God. That is to say the kingdom of God is the only answer. The king is Christ, the dominion Is the world. The divine Jaw oper- ating from Jerusalem is the only solution. SO We really should take time out to read, and | search the Scriptures daily for direction and hope.
