The program, called Just Sports Camps, consists of eight-week camps that offer participants schooling in eight different sports. “There will be an emphasis on one particular sport each week for the kids who are interested in one sport in particular,” Lewis said. Sports on the schedule are ten- nis, golf, swimming, baseball, bas- ketball, soccer, ball hockey and volleyball. The weekly camps begin on July 3 and runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p-m. weekdays. It will be run by a new coach, Fraser Leversedge, who has repre- sented the Canadian national soc- cer team, as well as having played in England for Queens Park Ran- gers Reserves and Norwich City Reserves. Summer Games. Kristi Gregory, Colin Dewolf, Chris Newman and Neville Hard- ing all posted impressive times at the regional trials to win berths on the team. The day before these four swim- mers contributed to the Piranahs club posting a resounding victory at a swim meet in Esquimalt, May 26. Easily beating out its closest tivals, the Nanaimo White Rapids, the Piranahs won the first club meet of the season by over 150 points. Coach Al Porter said that almost every team Swimmer posted at least one personal best at the event. Nine pool records were broken in all by the following Piranahs competitors. Janice Hanan won the 200- metre individual medley in Divi- sion 4, while Jennifer’ DeWolf clinched the 50-metre and 100- meter freestyle events in Division 6. Lacrosse pee wees trounce Saanich The Peninsula Pee Wee B lacrosse team trounced the Saa- nich Pee Wee B squad by a score of 15-4 Thursday. After an uninspired effort in the first two periods, Peninsula shifted into top gear in the final period to score a total of nine goals. The victory was the result of a solid team effort with all players — except goalkeeper Matt John- son — getting at least one point, team manager Ray Johnson said. Robin Hembruff lead the scor- ing with three goals, followed by Jay Loveridge, Andy Holliday and J Tom Paul with two goals each. Also getting on the scorecard were Garrod Mezger, Brian Samp- son, Alex Watson, Tyler Walker, Philip Pelkey and Aiden Curran. To date the team is undefeated in league play, with six wins and one tie to its credit. Peninsula also narrowly missed out on the gold medal at the Captain Cook Pee Wee Tourna- ment, May 18-20. The team suffered a 7-3 loss at the hands of North Delta Pee Wee B in the division final but still came home with the silver runner- up medal. UNITED Jennifer Aspen was the top fin- isher in the 50-metre butterfly race in Division 3, while Jens Jakobson won the 50-metre breaststroke in the men’s Division 3. : Robbie Carlow took top honors in the Division 4 freestyle 100- metre race, while Christina Hoff- man was the fastest competitor in the Division 1 freestyle 25-metre event. The 100-metre individual med- ley in Division 3 went to Jonathan Owen. Jennifer Deane won both the 100-metre breaststroke race as well as the 50-metre butterfly event in Division 4.
