Feature Continued from Page BI Before the Sidney Days parade, spectators will be entertained by the bed races along Beacon Ave- nue from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The action switches to Tulista Park for the afternoon. The Kid’s Camival in the park offers games, activities and entertainment for youngsters under the sponsorship of the Panorama Leisure Centre. Also in the park is the annual Hole-in-One contest, with golfers literally sinking a lot of balls as they try to land a ball on an offshore raft. “This year we have a bigger and better raft — bigger so people can hit it with their golf balls,” Young said. More balls will be bouncing during the ongoing bingo games in the park, scheduled for noon to 4:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available from a variety of booths joining in the Lions Food Fair and at the beer and wine garden. “Tulista Park is really the main focus of the weekend,” Young said. Competitions will pit Peninsula community representatives against one another, starting with the fire- fighter’s tug-of-war and including slow-pitch challenges between Sidney and North Saanich munici- pal staff and between Central Saa- nich police and the RCMP. Gentler sport is offered through the annual croquet tournament at Stonehouse Pub from 1 to 6 p.m. Earlier on Sunday the Peninsula Track Club’s fun run and walk covers 10 kilometres from 8:30 to, 9:30 a.m. Those waking up or working up an appetite can attend the Kiwanis Pancake breakfast at Sanscha Hall from 7 a.m. until 11 am. In the evening, the Rotary Club will hold a salmon barbecue at Sanscha Hall from 5 to 8 p.m. The barbecue is followed by a Country Western Jamboree from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. at Sanscha Hall. Music will be provided by Wayne Peters and his Home Brew band. July 1 is so full of activities that the Canada Day celebrations will be held the evening of June 30, Young said. The celebrations will be held from 8 until 11 p.m. in Tulista Park and will include bands, award presentations, birthday cake and a fireworks display. Organizers felt the July 1 long weekend event conflicted with other jazz festivals in the area and was overshadowed by Sidney Days activities. The jazz festival is now sched- uled for Sept. 28, 29 and 30.
