Pee wees get gentlemen’s award The Peninsula Pee Wee A lacrosse team captured the Most Sportsmanship Award at the Annual Captain Cook Lacrosse Tournament at Juan de Fuca arena Saturday. Although the Peninsula pee wees missed the medal round, their level of sportsmanship was outstanding, a team spokesman said. Player Mark Kosick was named a member of the tournament’s All Star team. In their last two games since the event, Pee Wee A edged Juan de Fuca by 12-11 in one game but lost by 11-7 in the next. Peninsula goal scorers were Kosick with 11, Sean Owens with five goals, and singles from Gus Morris, Ross Howie and Dennis Baggot. The squad is heading to Van- couver this weekend to challenge mainland teams in the Wayne Goss Pee Wee Toumament. Local fighters in Wesi Coast championships Local karate fighters will be competing at the West Coast Can- Am Championships at the B.C. Institute of Technology in Bur- Naby, June 2. About a dozen students from ’ Mike Puckett’s Noble House of Karate will participate in the spar- ring, kata (demonstration) and weapons competitions. Puckett was originally sched- uled to fight for Team Canada against Team U.S.A. in the tourna- ment’s feature event. However, he was forced to with- draw due to an injury and will now be refereeing some of the sparring matches between the two national teams.
