Lorelei Harding will lead a Jaz- zercise Class, which is a unique combination of effective exercise, jazz-dance movements and popu- lar music. “Jazzercise is the number one fitness program in the world,” Harding said. She is one of almost 4,000 certified, carefully trained instruc- tors conducting classes for more than 400,000 students throughout Canada and the United States, and in 30 other countries. “Jazzercise offers a great pack- age of fitness and fun,” Harding The 60 to 65 minute class includes a warm-up, a dance- aerobic segment followed by a cool-down, muscle-toning and flexibility exercises, and a final cool-down. Instructors may also give classes in three alternative formats — Super Session allows a longer workout, Fast and Fit concentrates on aerobics only, and Stretch and Tone centres on muscle toning and stretching. Some instructors offer Junior Jazzercise to children aged four to 12. “During class, we show ways to tone down or increase the intensity of each routine, so everyone can Tough win for novice squad The Peninsula Novice 2 lacrosse team achieved a hard-fought vic- tory over league front-runner Vic- toria/Esquimalt, winning by a score of 8-5, May 16. Playing away from home, Penin- sula Novice fell behind early on but leveled the score twice to finish the first period at 2-2. In the second period, Peninsula Novice surged ahead to take a commanding 6-2 lead. In the final period, the home team scored three times while Peninsula’s produced two goals. Victoria/Esquimalt’s forwards fired off a barrage of shots late in the game in a desperate bid to regain control of the match but they were thwarted by the visitors’ skillful play and strong defence. Peninsula’s goalie John Unde- rwood played outstandingly well, making some great saves to keep Victoria/Esquimalt from getting on the scoresheet more often, a team spokesman said. Peninsula Novice now extend their record to four wins and one loss. Run 10-K for the Burn Fund The Victoria Firefighters Elk- Beaver Lake 10-K Trial Run will feature a number of Peninsula athletes Sunday, an organizer said. The race will begin at the south end of Beaver Lake at 10 a.m. and is billed as a fun run with a portion of the proceeds from the event going to the Victoria Firefighters Bum Fund, fireman Ron Ashley said.
