The open house will also intro- duce the hospital’s new ambula- tory care unit, which will be ® officially opened by Saanich and the Islands MILAs Mel Couvelier and Terry Huberts earlier that day. The five-bed unit is used for OUR V.I.P. 25th medical diagnostic procedures and minor surgery that does not require an overnight stay in hospi- tal. Before the hospital had an ambulatory care unit, patients coming for minor procedures booked in the day before and spent the night in hospital. Now patients can just come in for the day, Wakefield said. “It’s much more convenient for the patient. It’s very fast.” Although the unit is being offi: cially opened Saturday, it has been in use since the beginning of April.
