Hospital opens doors Saturday

Get behind the scenes at Saa-
nich Peninsula Hospital this Satur-
day during an open house from 1
p.m. until 4 pm.

“We really want people to leam
more about the facility and the
services we offer,” said Director of
Community Relations Marylou
Wakefield.

The open house will also intro-
duce the hospital’s new ambula-
tory care unit, which will be

® officially opened by Saanich and

and Terry Huberts earlier that day.
The five-bed unit is used for

medical diagnostic procedures and
minor surgery that does not
require an overnight stay in hospi-
tal. Before the hospital had an
ambulatory care unit, patients
coming for minor procedures
booked in the day before and spent
the night in hospital.

Now patients can just come in
for the day, Wakefield said. “It’s
much more convenient for the
patient. It’s very fast.”

Although the unit is being offi:
cially opened Saturday, it has been
in use since the beginning of
April.
