Last week a letter to your paper BIG SAVINGS! a Zz Continued from Page Ai3 Mi A = he | | = TE from local resident C.I. Doman made the most sensible suggestion to date, and certainly one aired for _ the first time that I am aware of. @ The majority of the public should be served by the facilities that belong to the public. The federal and provincial Jands along with those of the municipal- ity belong to the public. Since this is the case, Mr. Doman’s sugges- tion that float planes should be moved to a less ecologically sensi- tive area and one where the pilots would feel safer landing deserves support. To not support such an idea is to allow squatters rights to confront the aspirations of the boating public. The return part of his journey is usually to Cigarette Cove which is a fish- ing lodge of excellence, and excite- ment, some of which is usually . generated by seeing if the landing planes will avoid the ever present boats. Simon S. Deane Sidney spring clean-up being abused Editor: My understanding of the North Saanich Spring Cleanup Program is that it is an opportunity for Tesidents to remove debris from their property. I support such a program which prevents unsightly refuse from collecting and detract- . ing from our beautiful municipal- ity. However in my opinion many residents are abusing this program. I have seen all of the following left ‘gut for pick-up: hot water tanks, refrigerators, stoves, couches, arm- LOU chairs, high chairs, a garage door opener, dinghys and carpeting. I am upset that my tax dollars are paying for other people to clean out their homes. We replaced our hot water tank in February so my husband took . the old one to the landfill. Why should other residents pay for us to remove it? If people don’t have access to a truck surely the residents in this municipality can afford to respond to a newspaper ad and pay some- one to haul their refuse away. A further point which upsets me > is that toxic materials are being put out for pickup. I have seen turpen- tine and paint thinner containers, = paint and stain cans, flammable oil LL awn C h air containers and drywall, all waiting 5 x 6 polypropylene budget by the roadside.
