SSE EE Peninsula karate club gives good showing [Fro A number of Peninsula karate enthusiasts distinguished them- selves at the Vancouver Island Karate Invitational tournament at Parkland Secondary Saturday. Of the 350 competitors, four karate fighters from Puckett’s Noble House of Karate won spar- ring events. - In the men’s blue/brown belt division, Barrington Bonnick came out on top with a first-place title while Nancy Verhagen won the ladies blue/brown belt contest. Ryan Ward was victorious in the white/yellow belt pee wee sparring event. And in the men’s orange/ green lightweight division, Dave Osguthorpe took the honors. Several other fighters placed second and third in their respec- tive divisions. Tony Cetinski took second place in the men’s orange-green heavy- weight division. Darcy Kray fought his way to a third-place placing in the men’s blue/brown sparring event. In the ladies’ blue/brown divi- sion, Trish Palmer took third place. ~ Sean Lucas took a strong third- place finish in the intermediate orange to brown sparring event while Adam Puckett took the bronze medal in the white/yellow pee wee sparring event. In the Kata demonstation event, second place honors were won by Darcy Kray (men’s over-35), Linda Devlin Cadies black belt), Trish Palmer (ladies’ blue/ brown) and Grace Verhagen (pee wee white/yellow). Other Peninsula club members Adam Puckett and Monica Byron came third in their respective divi- sions. at impressing the judges.
