Feature "Swimmers support hospice society Swimmers splashed up a’ storm in the Panorama Leisure Centre pool Thursday night as individuals swam up to 152 lengths in an hour during the annual Victoria Hospice Swim-a-thon. Members of the Second Wave Masters Swim Club, the Piranha Summer Swim Club, pool staff and! individuals joined in raising funds for the Victoria Hospice Society. . A three-man team from the North Saanich Volunteer fire department collectively swam 262 lengths. A father and two sons added their lengths together to produce a total of over 300 lengths completed during the hour-long Swim. Individuals swam between 40 and 152 lengths during the hour, Volunteers from the Friends of Hospice group and from hospice staff officially counted the com- pleted lengths. Buttons were pre- sented to participants. Last year’s swim-a-thon attracted 20 swimmers and raised $5,500. This year 25 swimmers participated. The swim was also supported by the leisure centre, by a donation of fruit juice from Thrifty Foods and by a donation of donuts from Oakcrest. Victoria Hospice provides care and support services for terminally ill patients and their families.
