Newton Day Care Centre facility in Saanichton Thursday, Guests squeezed into the 325 chairs crowded under a canopy or stood under umbrellas as Lt-Gov. David Lam cut the nbbon opening the $450,000 building. “The weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits,” said centre exec- utive director Patsy Berger-North. One of the centre’s clients, Henry Nunney, presented a basket of flowers to Mrs. Lam on behalf of the area’s senior citizens. Highlights of the opening cere- mony included unveiling of a plaque by provincial Ministry of Health and Capitall Regional Dis- trict Hospital representatives, offi- cial messages from the provincial government and comments from Mt. Newton Society board chair- man Pat Paterson. Entertainment was provided by. soloist Annie Beaudry, accompan- ied by Elizabeth Taylor, who sang Bless this House. Beaudry and senior Robert Taylor sang again at the end of the ceremony, while the Lieutenant-Governor and his wife toured the new centte. The couple greeted all those attending in a receiving line after the ceremony. Refreshments were prepared by Stelly’s Secondary school and served by the students.
