Sports TheReview Wednesday, April 25,1990 — B6 Dancer impresses windlass) ballet Ten year-old Valerie Freeland’s skills as a dancer have charmed the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, leading to her selection for the prestigious company’s summer school in July. A student of Peninsula Dance School, Freeland took up ballet a couple of years ago and quickly established herself as a promising Ur) ee de young dancer. Since then she has danced in school productions and has even performed in the Alberta Ballet Company’s annual production of the Nutcracker Suite. Peninsula Dance School Direc- tor Diana Gault views Freeland as a hot young talent. “She has a lot of natural ability, combined with a willingness to- master new steps. And she doesn’t mind the hard work involved,” she said. Recently Freeland’s first ever solo performance won her first place in the Upper Island Music Festival. Basketball camp Basketball B.C. will hold a tryout camp for Vancouver Island under-15 girls’teams to pick play- ers for the B.C. Summer Games, which will be held in Prince George between July 12 and July 14. The tryout will take place at Oak Bay Secondary School between May 5 and May 6, with registra- tion taking place at 8:30 a.m. on May 5.
