, Feature ie When students from Ecole Saint-Pierre school in Quebec arrive in Central Saanich next month one thing will be familiar — the hawk logo of Mt Newton Middle School. A carved and painted wooden plaque of the logo, created by Sidney artist Allan Porter, was presented to Ecole Saint-Pierre school last fall by visiting Mt. Newton students. In the first-half of the exchange, 39 Met Newton grade eight stu- dents in the French immersion “program stayed with families in Quebec City and attended classes TheReview Mit. Newton hawk flies to Quebec at Ecole Saint-Pierre from Oct. 24 until May 1. “Tt was an extremely stimulat- ing experience for most of them,” said parent coordinator Alison Gardner The exchange gave the students a chance to speak French daily, both in school and outside school hours. Until the trip, most of the stu- dents had only spoken French in the classroom, Gardner said. The Quebec students will come to Central Saanich from May 10 to 17 for the second half of the exchange.
