Hodgkins Division contest with a 15-6 score. Peninsula rugby teams both win Both Peninsula secondary schools’ rugby teams won in league action last week. Thursday, the Stelly’s Stingers defeated Vic High on a concrete- hard field with a 15-6 score. Shawn Burkowski and Ian Campbell scored tries for Stelly’s while Matt Underwood made good on two converts and one penalty kick. The win put the Stingers in third place in the Lower Island High School League’s Col. Hodgkins Division with two wins and three losses. Meanwhile, the Parkland Panthers rugby squad is in first place with an undefeated five-win record in Col. Hodgkins league play. Last week the Panthers over- whelmed Oak Bay with a 30-6 Victory. 95 ladies for spring 9-hole The Glen Meadows ladies’ golf season began April 3 with over 95 ladies teeing off in the annual Two-ball, alternate shot Spring Opening Tournament. First prize honors went to the team of Berne Davies and Dorothy Shortreed. Tied for second place were the teams of Shirley Downs/ Pat Shepherd and Veronica Keith/ Darlene Boyd. A grad of °85, Melville, 22, played five years of volleyball with the Vikings, helping the team to a first-place Canada West season end and a second-place national finish in the CIU national tourna- ment. “It’s hard to accept an individu- al award when you’re in a team sport like volleyball,” Melville said. “But it’s nice to go out of my university career with some recog- nition.” Her only regret is not winning the national championship. ances. water. While at Parkland, Melville played basketball, volleyball and was on the track and swim teams. The Vikings’ middle blocker was invited to tryout with the Canadian National volleyball team in Saskatoon and was in the midst of deciding.
