Maybe it is you. Bill Gray Sidney Lei’s compost if Editor: How exciting it is to finally have the blue box recycling program underway in Sidney. This is surely a good start in our battle to tum around a lifestyle which, if not drastically changed, threatens to destroy everyone’s future. Another initiative which could be started now is the phasing out of backyard buming, along with reducing the volumes of vegetable and garden refuse which make their way to landfill sites. Maybe this could become a teality by establishing some sort of composting facility for the town. I’m not sure what kind of capital costs would be involved, but I do think it could be manned on a volunteer basis, at least for the initial startup. Maybe it would eventually become self- supporting. I intend to approach the Mayor and council with this thought, and I’m hoping that they shall see fit to make it an item of business very soon. Ray Chapeskie Sidney not released Editor: In your January 21 issue of The Review, you featured an article entitled “Debt Collection a Tough Job.” You indicated at the end of the article that it is part of a series provided by lawyers in the com- munity. I wish to bring to your attention that information con- cerming general public access to the address of motor vehicle licence plate owners is incorrect. The Motor Vehicle Branch does not release the address of a motor vehicle licence plate owner unless the information is required to pro- cess a vehicle transaction. Persons requesting an address must be authorized to do so and must produce additional information such as a vehicle serial number or a transfer document with the previ- ous Owners signature. The Branch’s policy on the disclosure of such information is intention- ally designed to protect the public from contact by individuals or companies without the owner’s consent. I trust this information will clar- ify for your readership the policy of the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Branch regarding the gen- eral disclosure of information con- cerning motor vehicle licence plate owners. Tartan Day in Scotland is recog- nized on July 1 but as that is our Canada Day it was not suitable for our celebration of the tartan. In- stead the date of the Treaty of Arbroath, signed April 6, 1320, and later known as the Declaration of Scottish Independence, has been chosen to be Tartan Day in our country. This date has been officially recognized in Nova Sco- tia and we hope, eventually, to gain the same recognition for it across Canada. The history of this community has been intricately woven with that of the Scots, the first of whom amived here to build, and work in, the Hudson’s Bay Fort in 1843.
