Small boy is big winner of fish derby

He might only be seven-years-
old but Colin Roberts can reel in
the big ones with the rest of them.

Roberts used an anchovy spe-
cial, down about 120 feet off Coal
Island Sunday, to catch the biggest
fish at the Sidney Anglers’ Prem-
ier Fish Derby.

Total weight of the spring sal-
mon was 13 Ibs. 2 oz. at the
weigh-in and Colin admitted his
dad helped with reeling it in. His
prize for the biggest fish was a $99

A total of 32 tickets were sold
for the Sidney Anglers’ first fish
derby of the year. The next one is
scheduled for June 3 and is called
the President’s Derby.

Other top salmon at the 3 p.m.
Tulista Park weigh-in was Barry
Freeman’s 11 Ibs. 9 oz. spring,
derby chairman Hank Koerts with
a 9 Ibs. 8 oz. entry, Bruno Bauer
with a 9 lbs. 6 oz. fish and Vic
Baker with a 7 Ibs. catch. Ed
Pugh’s entry weighed in at 6 lbs. 9

Bauer won the hidden weight
contest, which was set at 8 Ibs. 12
OZ.
