SAANICH PENINSULA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE THE BIBLE THE BOOK FOR’ TODAY Most certainly the problems in our environment are taking up Our attention. The situation real- ly isn’t new, by any means. Over. the last 60 years the problems with our ecology have been looming up. Only recently have people taken it seriously and quite rightly so. Large corpora- tions now under pressure are speaking out their intentions to do something about it. Politi- cians are giving the matter some serious thought. Yes, the western world is waking up to the fact that by the end of the century we could be in real serious trouble. Things went real well in Eden, man was given the ability to take care of the beautiful creation that God had created. Man was given dominion over the environment. Man had God-given virtues to achieve perfect control over all that the Lord God had created. Yes, until sin entered into the world and then death because of sin!! Even Adam lived over nine hundred years before he died. Now man lives a shorter life span, yet he is increasing, and the population is doubling every decade. Once again we have to come to realize that the Bible makes some plain state- ments that we should consider and accept. Jeremiah 10:23 says “O Lord, | know the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.” So, with this statement by the prophet we get the an- swer. Man by himself cannot effect a solution to the problems that face us. We have gotten ourselves into a situation, and only God can reverse it and change it. And changed it will be with the return of his son Jesus Christ to the earth, to rule the earth. He will set up divine laws that will be kept — laws of peace and justice, giving all glory to God, the Creator and upholder of the universe. Thatis why Jesus intructed his disci- ples to pray “Thy kingdom come.” Only with Gods kingdom on earth will a change be effect- ed in our environment. Amos 9:13 “Behold the days come, saith the Lord, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper!” (No more famine) When the king- dom is etablished then the bal- ances of nature will be restored, and the earth will once again become a beautiful garden, pro- ducing abundant crops for all mankind.
