Neither group was willing to help me relocate the animal if I was lucky enough to catch it. Now, my chickens and I are plagued by a bloodthirsty mink which kills unnecessarily, often not even eating his prey. He fits through the smallest cage wire, and has subsequently bitten the heads off of eight chickens in the last month. The SPCA and the Ministry of the Environment have been unable and unwilling to help. I am now spending a fortune on bait which the mink steals from the trap without being caught. Why am I writing this? To let the public know that poultry enthusiasts have little recourse against expensive and painful attacks, but to go beyond the ineffective humane methods and end the problem for once and for all. I also wish to refute the sensa- tionalist style of this story, which implies that Tuffy and Patches are also trap victims. Does reporter Glenn Werkman have proof of this? Did Werkman investigate Tuddenham’s claim that the pheasant pens were insecure? I am familiar with these pens and know _ that they are well built, and as secure as possible.
