Both pilots disputed a report by Dick Herlinveaux, chairman of the public boat launch committee, which recommended the boat ramp be built at the south end of atricia Bay. Fears that public boats in the bay. would lead to an accident with a seaplane were raised by Cooper the boat ramp will cost $1 million and moving the float plane dock another $50,000, he said. He suggested the municipality work with the Tseycum native band to develop a public boat ramp on the other side of the bay. Harrison asked for council assurance that the entire boat ramp project be done legally. Council referred the issue to its planning, zoning and parks com- mittee. Dual appointments halted __ The same person can no longer be appointed to the North Saanich environmental advisory commis- sion and the advisory plaming commission, under amendments to the bylaw recently approved by Porth Saanich council. Ald. Dee Bailin and Mayor Linda Michaluk opposed the ‘change, which arose from a letter of resignation from the advisory planning commission written by former alderman Bill Gordon, who suggested the amendment. _ One person has served on both ‘commissions for the past year, he noted. “This whole bylaw change is the result of sour grapes of one member of the community, I think it’s ludicrous,” Michaluk said. She and Bailin argued council should choose commission mem- bers on the basis of qualifications and not eliminate someone because that person already serves on another council committee. Ald. Maurice Chazottes said the change would give more people a chance to participate on council committees. Ald. Art McKinnon said one person should not be able to influence two committees. Council agreed the person now sitting on both committees should finish both terms.
