Page M16 March 21, 1990. This Week Continued from Page 15 a car is invaluable to a would- be importer. For example, in: January of 1989, Transport’ Canada introduced an amend- ment to the Motor Vehicle Safe- ty Regulations governing speedometer markings and fuel filler instructions. Canadi- an standards require the speedometer to be graduated in kilometres per hour. Also, vehi- cles that run exclusively on unleaded fuel must bear a bi- lingual sticker adjacent to the fuel filler cap. The CAA booklet The Private Importation of a Motor Vehicle Into Canada contains self adhesive decals for the speedometer and gas filler to get around that requr- iement. With relaxed restrictions on the importation of vehicles from the U.S. it’s a certainty that more and more Canadians will be doing it. With the re- placement of the 13.5 per cent federal tax by the seven per cent GST on Jan. 1, 1991, the practice will be come even more prevelant. Those who practise the motto “buyer be- ware’ and do their homework will find it a relatively painless procedure. = AN OPEN LETTER TO: CITIZENS OF VICTORIA AGED 55 AND OVER Dear Friends: My name is Rebecca Kool and|'d like to take this opportu- nity to re-introduce you to The Wellesley of Victoria.
