Three | arrested in auctioneers’ yard Three people were arrested early Friday morning after police were alerted that someone was trying to crash a Ford Pinto through the fence at Jefferson’s Auctioneenng Ltd. on Keating Crossroad. Central Saanich deputy police Chief George Lawson said one male was caught by Central Saa- nich police, another was caught and held by a person living on the _ property, and a third was caught after being tracked by a police dog from Victoria. Police received the call about 4:30 a.m. Police allege the males armived at the business in a stolen vehicle and were attempting to steal another vehicle. ; After a newspaper clipping about an armed robbery of the Cordova Bay Pay Less Gas station was apparently found on one of the men, Saanich police were called in to launch their own investigation, Lawson said. Police séized from the area a 1971 Mercury Comet, reported stolen. A hammer was used as a weapon during the holdup of the Pay Less station at 5146-Cordova Bay Rd., March 6. ~ -Domonic Hicks, 19, of no fixed address, Allan Keith Mole, 18, and a 16-year-old boy from Brentwood Bay appeared in provincial court to face charges laid by both depart- ments. Conditions and bail were set in provincial court for Hicks and Mole, Monday. Further « charges are pending. AIMING AN UNARMED missile launcher at targets in the Island View Road area March 1] morning were mem- bers of the Third Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry Armoured Defence Platoon, based at the Work Point barracks in Victoria. The platoon set up in bushes next to the road with a TOW (tube-launched, optically- tracked, wire-guided) missile launchers, then practised - tracking and simulated firing on jeeps or highway traffic. The missile launcher has a range of about 3,750 metres and takes about 20 seconds to hit a target at maximum range. Master Corp. Ron Hinkey, an instruc- tor, said, “itll take out any tank in the world.’’ At the end of this month the platoon will travel to Yakima, Wash., to practice firing shaped charges designed to penetrate a metre of solid steel. GLENN WERKMAN photo Driver charged after rollover A 25-year-old Brentwood Bay Man was Charged with driving with undue care and attention after his 1981 Toyota pickup rolled over at excessive speed on Keating Crossroad just east of West Saa- nich Road, about 3:15 a.m. Satur- day. Central Saanich police said about $4,500 damage resulted after the man lost control and hit a B.C Hydro pole while westbound on Keating Crossroad. The man received minor injuries and was taken to Saanich Penin- sula Hospital by a police vehicle.
